It is our pleasure to invite all pregnant women living or willing to come to Sacramento to participate in the Body Awareness Birth Yoga (B.A.B.Y.) class for a nominal fee of $5.

This class will be held as part of the Body Awareness Birth Yoga Educator and Mother Support Specialist Workshop.

The dates and times are as follows:

• April 30, 2010, 9:30 am to 10:30 am
• April 30, 2010, 5:00 pm to 6:00 pm
• May 1, 2010, 11:00 am to 12:00 pm
• May 1, 2010, 3:00 pm to 4:00 pm
• May 2, 2010, 11:00 am to 12:00 pm

We are extending a special offer, attend 3 sessions for $10, if you register by April 1, 2010. (Class is for pregnant women at any stage). Space is limited.

We  have partnered with Childbirth Professional Development Group to offer a one day workshop that will increase profieiency of labor support skills and non-pharmacological pain management techniques in nurses, midwives, physicians, and other perinatal professionals.

This workshop will offer practical skills to use in the care of a pregnant or laboring patient.  Participants will also learn how to implement evidence-based patient centered care.

Approved by both ICEA (International Childbirth Education Association) for 7 contact hours, and the California Board of Registered Nursing for 8 contact hours.

The first workshop begins on February 27, 2010 in Sacramento, California.  Space is limited.

Our deep desire is that all women may feel empowered as they experience birth. As we labor to that end we have partnered with,  The WomanCraft Midwifery Education Program to bring a Beginner’s Midwifery Intensive Workshop to Sacramento, CA on July 22, 23, 24 & 25, 2010.

This workshop is for the curious and interested, the decided and the undecided, those in need of direction and those knowing which path to take.

The time you spend will be priceless, immersed in focused time understanding birth and the bodies of women. You will be inspired and gain practical skills and information.

We have relocated to Benicia, California, and are thrilled to offer couples not only birth classes, but the opportunity to combine classes with a babymoon.

Similar to a honeymoon, couples will be able to get away and focus upon each other.

The Birthing Basics class is held on Sunday afternoons from 2-4 pm.  This private, small class meets downtown and provides an overview of the labor process.  Couples will spend an hour learning breathing and relaxation techniques.

Stay at the Inn & Spa at Benicia Bay and take advantage of a special package that includes room, jacuzzi, couples massage, full breakfast and dinner.  Benicia offers much to explore: historic downtown, art galleries, the water front and San Francisco bay trails.

For the budget conscious, coming to Benicia for birth classes is a great day trip, and excellent way to spend time together, celebrating, and preparing for your new baby.

Body Awareness Birth™ Institute is committed to helping childbearing women connect to the strength and power they hold within to give birth.  In the spirit of our commitment, we are launching Beginning Midwifery training workshops, coming soon to your hometown.   This training will also include a one year online academic program.  However, the three day workshop, taught by an experienced midwife, will be a time to explore and understand more clearly that this is the career for you.

For future midwives seeking to enter the field as a Certified Professional Midwife (CPM), we are here to assist and help you upon the right track (which currently varies from state to state).  However, legislation is coming soon that will grant federal recognition to Certified Professional Midwives.

I work doing what I love.

I am often asked, “Can you make a living as a birth professional?”

Yes, absolutely is my answer.

For sure you should be able to earn the money back you paid for a workshop,  certification process, or any test required to make you a qualified birth professional.

Birth professionals have so many options.  They work in hospitals, in the community, and they offer their services privately to pregnant families.

Success as a birth educator, yoga educator, doula, or Mother Support Specialist™ is up to your own drive.  I cannot imagine doing anything else.  I am living my dreams.

What does appeal  to younger expecting families are short, practical, intimate learning sessions.  Couples today want to be involved and participate in classes, not sit still for a 2 hour lecture.

A childbirth class that combines prenatal yoga is one example of how to reinvent.  Small classes or private classes that engage couples allowing them to ask questions in a comfortable setting is a new template for childbirth education.
